The main task of the selected candidate will be the design of domain walls with different internal structures in ferroelectric photonic crystals, and the study of their local optical response. She/he will carry out nonlinear optical microscopy and polarimetry experiments using advanced instruments. The local nonlinear optical response of the domain walls will be modeled using numerical simulations based on symmetry considerations.
We are seeking a motivated young scientist for a topic at the frontier between material science and nanophotonics as a post-doctoral fellow for 12 months with possible extension. This project aims at generating and investigating complex polarization textures at domain walls, and to control their nonlinear optical response. The consideration of ferroelectric domain walls as active nano-components in integrated photonic circuits is a promising topic that is still at its infancy stage. The possibility to write and erase, at will, light nanoemitters formed by domain boundaries could pave the way towards domain wall nanophotonics.
This project will take place at the Institut de Physique et Chimie des Matériaux de Strasbourg (IPCMS) which is an academic research institute associated to the University of Strasbourg and the French National Scientific Research Center (CNRS). The host institute is at the forefront of international research in the areas of nanomaterials and nanoscience. It relies on experimental methods allowing the design and characterization of functional nanomaterials, as well as theoretical studies and multiscale simulations. The IPCMS is active on the international scene through a range of institutional contacts with international partners. This postdoctoral research position is funded by the French national research agency (ANR) in the framework of a bilateral French-German collaboration.
- PhD in physics, material science, nano science or equivalent.
- Experience in photonics and/or ferroelectric materials.
- Basic programming skills in Python, Matlab, or Labview.
- Fluent English mandatory.
