Job description:

The safety and security of critical infrastructures is an essential foundation for the economic prosperity and stability of governments and societies. The Institute for the Protection of Maritime Infrastructures focuses on this challenge and develops new concepts, approaches and technol-ogies that may be used to analyse and enhance the safety and security of maritime infrastructures regarding people, technologies and systems.

The Department of Maritime Security Technologies addresses technological aspects that are essential for innovative system concepts aiming to increase the protection status of maritime infrastructures. In particular, this includes the development and testing of active optical sensors and remote sensing techniques for vision enhancement, predominantly at night and under difficult visibility conditions (e.g., snow, fog and rain).

The candidate will work in a research field that is rich in variety, focusing on the development of active optical sensors and remote sensing techniques for use in maritime environments. In particular, emitting and receiving (collecting) optical components are to be designed and tested. In addition, the candidate will have an active role in conducting field campaigns, data analysis and subsequent development of the sensors. The option to perform a PhD study in the context of this work can be evaluated.

The position includes the following principal activities:

development of optical sensor systems and remote sensing techniques for both above the water and underwater applications simulation of optical and mechanical sensor properties and corresponding laboratory experiments preparation, conduct, and analysis of field trials and campaigns to test and verify developed sensors and methods maintenance and operation of meteorological instruments, and corresponding data processing and analysis publication of research results in journals and at national and international conferences
