Offer Description
We strive for universality, diversity and interdisciplinarity. With more than 26,000 students, three Clusters of Excellence, 5,000 members of staff, over 150 institutes and an outstanding infrastructure, Leibniz University Hannover offers an innovative environment for top-level education and research in a comprehensive range of subjects.
The Faculty of Mechanical Engineering invites applications for the following position of Salary Scale W3 NBesO starting April 1, 2027:
University Professorship in Dynamics and Vibration Research
The Position
The Chair of Dynamics and Vibration Research assumes leadership of the Institute of Dynamics and Vibration Research (IDS). This internationally renowned institute focuses on the modeling, simulation, and experimental investigation of problems related to vibration technology.
At the core of the professorship’s research activities is the fundamental analysis and description of linear and nonlinear vibration phenomena, as well as the targeted excitation and damping of vibrations and waves in technical applications. This includes related innovative research questions and fields that applicants bring with them. The institute aims to address research topics of both a fundamental nature and with strong practical relevance. Therefore, experimental and theoretical methods are newly developed, tested, and decisively applied by you for the innovative advancement of the department.
In teaching, the professorship, in cooperation with the Institute of Continuum Mechanics, covers instructions in mechanics - both foundational and applied. Examples include classical foundational lectures on dynamics, as well as advanced courses in machine dynamics, multibody systems and numerical methods in dynamics, offered in various degree programs within the Faculty of Mechanical Engineering, such as Mechanical Engineering, Sustainable Engineering, Electrical Engineering, and Engineering and Business Administration. Based on a solid understanding of fundamentals, the teaching is characterized by a strong application orientation. The institute’s extensive experimental facilities are integrated into various research, teaching, and continuing education initiatives.
Your Profile
What we expect:
- Excellent achievements in research and teaching in the field of dynamics and vibrations, demonstrated by relevant publications/patents or visible project reports and successful project outcomes.
- Several years of experience in leading teams, preferably in the context of scientific research.
- Experience in acquiring and managing high-profile third-party funded projects.
What we wish for:
- Commitment to advancing research in dynamics, including interdisciplinary approaches.
- Ideas for the continued use and development of the institute’s extensive experimental facilities.
- The ability and willingness to collaborate with the institutes within the Faculty of Mechanical Engineering, as well as with the university’s clusters of excellence and other institutions at Leibniz University Hannover.
What we can offer you
The opportunity to lead an excellently equipped institute situated on the modern and purpose-built Mechanical Engineering Campus, inaugurated in 2019.
LUH offers excellent working conditions in a vibrant scientific community combined with an exceptional standard of living in a modern city surrounded by nature.
