About
Subject : Mechanical and metallurgical properties of high speed additive manufacturing process
General information
Workplace :Nancy
Type of contract: FTC Scientist
Contract period :12 to 24 months
Expected date of employment :Between January and March 2019
Proportion of work :Full time
Remuneration : 31 000 euros gross per year
Desired level of education :PhD or Research engineer with few years of experiences.
Work context
The post-doctoral student will work in the Solidification team of the Jean Lamour Institute under the responsibility of Pr. D. Daloz in the framework of the project "Additive manufacturing processes - productivity" PAM PROD. The PAM PROD project brings a new solution to address production issues related to large parts, by developing a hybrid machine based on the use of GT and Laser WAM and CLAD® (Powder Deposition) technologies.
The objective of the project is to develop a new platform that will be integrated into IREPA LASER's additive manufacturing plant (AF), thus creating a real tool for the valorization of AF towards industrialists. This hybrid machine combining laser, wire deposition and powder deposition will have the capacity to manufacture compliant parts from the first trial, up to dimensions of 6 meters and by dividing the unit cost by 3.
The PAM PROD project brings together the partners Irepa-Laser- Aperam - Prodways - TPSH - ESTIA - IJL.
Missions / Activities
The candidate recruited, will be in charge of the characterization of the properties and mechanical health of the parts produced with a view to improving the process. He/she will be a driving force in the definition, dimensioning and establishment of test plans (mechanical/ fracture/ fatigue/ residual stresses...), which he/she will conduct within the IJL or subcontract. His critical thinking, analytical skills and characterization capacity will enable him to implement relevant properties of the process database and project properties while contributing to the development of new and robust solutions in terms of productivity and material health.
The candidate will have skills in the following fields validated by a first experience during his PhD or appendix.
Skills
Mechanics:definition, execution and interpretation of mechanical tests (Charpy / Traction / Fatigue / CTOD...). Measurement of residual stresses.
Metallurgy/ processes:knowledge of additive manufacturing process/ heat transfer/ stress modeling, solidification, phase transformation, knowledge of metallurgy of titanium base alloys, Inconels, stainless steel and corrosion.
Metallographic :metallographic characterization, optics, SEM, TEM.
Transversals:Project Management, planning, reporting, writing articles, database implementation, interpersonal skills and teamwork.
