Offer Description

At the CNRS, this postdoctoral researcher contract takes part within the European Research Council-funded project GRAPH-EAST (n°948390). This project focuses on inscriptions and graffiti of the Eastern Mediterranean from the 7th to the 16th centuries. It has four objectives: exploring the “cycle” of the epigraphic object (the medieval production and the history of reception/transmission), providing a connected history of epigraphy using other alphabets, understanding the representation and practice of the Latin writing system in the East, analysing migrant writing through the prism of cultural transfers between West and East. The post-doc will be in charge of the medieval inscriptions of the Italian Maritime Republics in the eastern Mediterranean.
The candidate will participate in an ambitious project, requiring flexibility and creativity, while offering the successful candidate an exciting opportunity to renew the understanding of the graphic landscape in the Eastern Mediterranean in the Middle Ages.

*Cooperate closely with other members of the research team and with specialists to deliver these project's goals.
*Participate in the inventory and the edition of the graffiti (database HEURIST and TITULUS)
*Publish research results at the highest scientific level
*Share research results in workshops organised by the project team and at international conferences
*Participate actively in the project management (support the organisation of events and activities related to the project, undertake administrative activities)
*Participate in the dissemination and communication of the project in the co-direction of the virtual exhibition with the PI.

The CESCM is a Joint Research Unit of the University of Poitiers and the CNRS. It is also linked by a convention to the Ministry of Culture and Communication. The laboratory is internationally recognised in the field of medieval epigraphy, which it has been developing for 50 years through a triple activity: publishing, teaching and research.
The candidate will work with the other researchers of the team GRAPH-EAST. He/she will also collaborate with the Antiquities Departments in different countries, and other institutions in this country.
