Offer Description

IMDEA Energía is opening a Predoctoral Researcher Position for the Electrical Systems Unit, looking for talented and motivated candidates to work on control solutions for renewable energy and storage grid integration using Virtual Power Plants.

Contract funded by “Comunidad de Madrid” in the framework of the PREDFLEX-CM project (TEC-2024/ECO-287), through the R&D activities programme “Tecnologías 2024”, under the Concession Order 5696/2024 of 10 December.

Tasks Description:

  • R&D in development of control systems for renewable energy sources and energy storage systems in electricity networks.
  • Stability assessment tools for Virtual Power Plants (VPPs) integration to power systems.
  • Modelling of electrical distribution networks with VPPs and development of grid ancillary services.
  • Implementation and proof of concept of the control algorithms in a Power HIL environment (Smart Energy Integration Lab).
  • Dissemination and publication of research results in scientific journals.

Mandatory Requirements:

  • Oficial Master Degree in Electrical, Electronic or Industrial Engineering, Control Systems or similar.
  • Bachelor degree in Electrical, Electronic or Industrial Engineering, Control Systems or similar.
  • Knowledge of Power Engineering, Power Electronics, Control Systems and Industrial Communication Systems.

 

Specific Requirements

Other merits to value:

  • Knowledge in System Modelling, Power Networks, Renewable Energy Technologies, IT technologies and Real-Time Control systems.
  • Knowledge of impedance-based assessment tools for power network stability.
  • Experience in modelling power networks, renewable energy sources and energy storage systems in Matlab/Simulink.
  • Experience in use of Hardware-In-the-Loop (HIL) and Power-Hardware-In-the-Loop (PHIL) platforms.
  • Experience in programming of Texas Instruments embedded platforms.
  • Oral and written communication skills in English.

Additional Information

Benefits
  • Remuneration: Between 22.000€ – 25.000€ per year, depending upon qualification and expertise.

*The contract includes all the benefits of the Spanish Public Health and Social Security System.

  • Duration of the contract: 1 year, possibility of annual renewals depending on performance
